Overview of COVID School Spending

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, our nation’s schools are navigating unprecedented challenges in addressing heightened student needs, mitigating striking learning loss, and ensuring safe and healthy learning environments. To help them meet the challenges head on, the federal government across two administrations allocated nearly $200 billion dollars for schools, districts, and states to invest in their recovery plans. Over the course of three rounds of funding, Georgia districts will receive a grand total of $6.2 billion, an historic amount.

The infusion of these funds into schools presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen Georgia schools, equip teachers and students with proven and innovative learning tools, and ensure our kids can not only leave the ravages of the pandemic in the past, but truly graduate ready for 21st-century college and career paths. To make this a reality, we must wisely invest these historic school funds in a targeted, data-driven, and student-centered way.
